About Vilon
Vilon is the dipeptide L-lysyl-L-glutamic acid (Lys-Glu; PubChem lists the structure as lysylglutamic acid, CID 7010502, C11H21N3O5, ~275.3 g/mol). It is one of the shortest members of the "peptide bioregulator" family developed by V. Kh. Khavinson and colleagues at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology.
In preclinical work, a DNA-microarray study of mouse heart tissue reported that Vilon altered expression of a small number of gene clones, and an in vitro study of lymphocytes from elderly donors reported decondensation of heterochromatin and reactivation of ribosomal-gene regions. Several rodent studies have examined Vilon in tumor and lifespan models. This evidence base consists almost entirely of Russian preclinical (animal and cell-culture) studies; there are no registered Western randomized human trials, and Vilon is not an approved drug.
