About Cartalax

Cartalax is the trivial name for the tripeptide Ala-Glu-Asp (AED), one of the short "peptide bioregulators" developed by V. Kh. Khavinson and colleagues at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology — a family of two-to-four-residue synthetic peptides studied for tissue-associated effects on gene and protein expression in cell-culture models.

The published primary research on AED is preclinical and largely in vitro. In cultured human skin fibroblasts undergoing replicative aging, AED has been reported to increase synthesis of sirtuin-1, sirtuin-6, and type I collagen, and — alongside the related peptides KE, KED and AEDG — to raise the proliferation marker Ki-67 and reduce MMP-9. These are observations of molecular changes in laboratory models, from a single research group; they are not evidence of any clinical or health effect, and AED has not been evaluated in human clinical trials.
