About Pancragen

Pancragen is the four-residue peptide Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp (KEDW; sequence-derived formula C26H36N6O9), one of the short synthetic "bioregulator" peptides studied by V. Kh. Khavinson and colleagues and associated in that framework with pancreatic tissue.

In cell-culture research, the KEDW peptide has been reported to increase expression of pancreatic acinar and islet differentiation markers (such as Pdx1, Ptf1a, Pax6, Pax4, Foxa2 and Nkx2.2) in young and aged pancreatic cell cultures, and a review by the same group lists it among peptides reported to induce pancreatic-cell differentiation. A proposed mechanism of direct DNA interaction comes largely from one research group, part of it in a non-PubMed-indexed journal. These are preclinical findings only; no therapeutic efficacy in humans is established.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pancragen?

Pancragen is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp, KEDW) from the Khavinson group of short peptide bioregulators. It is supplied as a research-use-only compound for laboratory study and is not approved for human use.

What is Pancragen peptide?

It is the peptide form of this compound — four linked amino acids (lysine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, tryptophan). In published preclinical research it has been studied for effects on pancreatic-cell differentiation markers and gene expression in cell culture and animal models.

What is the sequence of Pancragen?

Pancragen is the tetrapeptide Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp (single-letter KEDW); the sequence-derived molecular formula is C26H36N6O9.

What has Pancragen been studied for in research?

Peer-reviewed preclinical work, primarily from the originating laboratory, has reported that the KEDW peptide changes expression of pancreatic differentiation-associated transcription factors such as Pdx1, Pax6, Pax4 and Foxa2 in cell culture. These are laboratory findings only; no therapeutic efficacy in humans is established.

Is Pancragen approved for human use?

No. Pancragen is not approved by any regulator as a drug and is not a dietary supplement. It is sold for research use only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
